Review: Forget You by Jennifer Echols

Review: Forget You by Jennifer Echols

What I Thought… I’d heard so many good things about Jennifer Echols and I was so excited to read this book.  I hadn’t read of any of Echols books before, so I jumped on this one when I saw it in my library.  Unfortunately, that was the last of my excitement. This book was almost a DNF for me, and that’s saying a lot as I rarely DNF.  As it was, I pushed through and tried to make the best of a bad situation.  It wasn’t the quality of the writing that was the problem; it was more so the fact that I couldn’t stand any of the characters, nor did I understand any of their actions.  The whole book […]

It’s Swappin’ Time: Chaotic Goddess Mug o’ Comfort Swap!

It’s Swappin’ Time: Chaotic Goddess Mug o’ Comfort Swap!

Hey guys!  So I’m participating in my first swap on Chaotic Goddess Swaps, the Mug o’ Comfort Swap – how exciting 🙂  Actually, it’s my first swap EVER, and I’ve heard great things about these gals so you should totally check them out. I love comfort drinks – tea, hot chocolate, hot cider… The only thing I DON’T like is coffee.  I KNOW, I KNOW, what kind of italian am I?!  It’s probably not the right time to tell you that I don’t like olives either, huh? Anyhoo, moving on!  Soon I’ll be matched up with a partner and then I’ll send them a package of goodies, including a mug and its many comforting friends 🙂  After that, I’ll wait […]

Wednesday’s Weekly Wrap-Up {3}! Invisible Bookshelves, The Coming Of Power Laces and More…

Wednesday’s Weekly Wrap-Up {3}! Invisible Bookshelves, The Coming Of Power Laces and More…

Welcome to another edition of Wednesday’s Weekly Wrap-Up!  For lack of a better title, this is where I share with you all of the (mostly bookish) interesting bits and pieces I’ve bumbled across in the past week 🙂 This gif never gets old.  Nor does this dance. How cool are these invisible bookshelves on Book Riot!  I want them all but I don’t think my landlord would be so keen, except for the book tower 🙂 I also stumbled across literary fashion on Book Riot, and signs for when you’ve been reading too much YA… I too am still pissed that I haven’t received my letter to Hogwarts.  Also, if you don’t commute and have always thought that you don’t […]

Top Ten Tuesday {5}: REWIND! Top 10 Favourite Places To Read

Top Ten Tuesday {5}: REWIND! Top 10 Favourite Places To Read

Top Ten Tuesday is THE bookish meme, hosted by the wonderful ladies at The Broke and the Bookish, the book blog that hooked me on all other book blogs!  I’m a sucker for bookish memes, so here we go… Today’s topic is Rewind, and this means I get to pick which topic I want to redo that’s already been done!  Oh course, in my case it’s not so much redoing a topic as it is picking one of the MANY I haven’t done before, but that’s fine by me 🙂 I’ve decided to share my top ten favourite places to read with some of my instagram photos to help illustrate the points, so here we go! In My Bed: There […]

Review: The House of Memories by Monica McInerney

Review: The House of Memories by Monica McInerney

What I Thought… I bought this book on a bit of whim one day in October 2012 when I was in the CBD trying to kill a few hours.  I was there for an appointment in the early afternoon and I was meeting up with some friends later in the evening, but I didn’t realise the appointment would finish so quickly, leaving a huge gap of time for me to fill… And what better way to fill time than with a book!  I already owned two of Monica McInerney’s books at the time but I hadn’t read them, and this was a new release so I thought I’d give it a whirl.  And boy I’m I glad that I did! […]

Review: Bittersweet by Sarah Ockler

Review: Bittersweet by Sarah Ockler

What I Thought… I’ve been wanting to read Sarah Ockler’s books for a while, particularly The Book of Broken Hearts, but they’ve been difficult to get a hold of at my local library.  Some might take that as a bad sign; I myself see it as a sign that the author’s probably worth it if so many people are on hold waiting to read her books 🙂 When Bittersweet was the first of Ockler’s books to become available, I just knew I had to snap it up! I needed something a bit more fluffy to read after finishing The Book Thief, and this book did the job perfectly.  It was so sweet I was sure it was going to give me […]

Wednesday’s Weekly Wrap-Up {2}! A New JKR Book, Heavyweights and More…

Wednesday’s Weekly Wrap-Up {2}! A New JKR Book, Heavyweights and More…

Welcome to another week of Wednesday’s Weekly Wrap-Up!  For lack of a better title, this is where I share with you all of the (mostly bookish) interesting bits and pieces I’ve bumbled across in the past week, really anything that takes my fancy 🙂 J.K. Rowling is releasing a new book under her Robert Galbraith pseudonym, Silkworm, which is due to be released in June 2014.  The Cuckoo’s Calling is on my ever-growing TBR list, I really should get to it… Speaking of JKR, Bookriot says that her mistake was not pairing Ron and Hermione together, as mentioned in a previous post.  Rather, Bookriot makes the argument that JKR’s mistake was adding the epilogue in the first place.  I’m not […]

Top Ten Tuesday {4}: Top 10 Reasons I Love Being A Blogger/Reader

Top Ten Tuesday is THE bookish meme, hosted by the wonderful ladies at The Broke and the Bookish, the book blog that hooked me on all other book blogs!  I’m a sucker for bookish memes, so here we go… Today’s topic is Top Ten Reasons I Love Being A Blogger/Reader, and this was probably the easiest topic for me yet!  I know I haven’t been a blogger for long but I could go on for ages about why I love being a reader 🙂 I’ve decided to share my top five blogger loves and my top five reader loves, so here we go! THE BLOGGER The Community: I love being part of a community of book readers who talk about […]

Super Six Sunday: Super 6 Books That Warmed My Heart

Super Six Sunday: Super 6 Books That Warmed My Heart

Super Six Sunday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by the lovely ladies at Bewitched Bookworms 🙂 Today’s topic is Books That Warmed My Heart.  My list is pretty eclectic; it’s a mix of Adult Fiction, YA Fiction, Children’s Fiction, Classic Fiction and Non-Fiction. That’s essentially my reading tastes in a nutshell!  Allow me to recommend you six books I’ve read that warmed my heart 🙂 Attachments by Rainbow Rowell: Everything about this book warms my heart – Lincoln, Beth and Jennifer’s friendship, Lincoln, the emails, did I mention Lincoln? A heartwarming book from start to finish. Kissing Under the Mistletoe by Bella Andre: I’ve read all the of the books so far in Andre’s The Sullivans Series, but I […]

Wednesday’s Weekly Wrap-Up {1}! Literary Cocktails, Bookish Crying In Public and More…

Wednesday’s Weekly Wrap-Up {1}! Literary Cocktails, Bookish Crying In Public and More…

Ok… so I know I did this as Summing Up on Sunday last time, but I’ve decided that Sundays don’t work for me.  So, please welcome my new (or improved) feature, Wednesday’s Weekly Wrap-Up!  For lack of a better title, this is where I share with you all of the (mostly bookish) interesting bits and pieces I’ve bumbled across in the past week 🙂 For those of you in the mood for literary libations, here are five cocktails based on fictional characters thanks to FOOD RIOT. The age old question of what to do when a book makes you cry on public transport was examined by BOOK RIOT.  BOOK RIOT also taught me to stop apologising for what I like […]
