Monthly Recap | January 2016

I can’t believe that it’s already February!  Where does the time go?  Already a month down in 2016, it’s time to take a look at what I did in January.

Not a particularly jam-packed month for me, I spent most of January working my arse off.  When most of the country was taking leave, I worked all the way through the Christmas/New Year period, only having the public holidays off.  I rang in the New Year at a barbeque at a friend’s house, which was fun.  Australia Day (January 26) was spent down on the Mornington Peninsula at a winery and dairy, which were amazing.

I discovered Classpass, which is my newest addiction.  Classpass has long been available in the US and other parts of the world, and it’s finally made it’s debut here in Melbourne.  A membership which allows you to attend a whole range of classes at fitness studios and gyms, I’ve been having the best time exploring this.  I’d previously had a membership to a yoga studio but I got bored with that, and it’s was becoming too expensive. I don’t want to be restricted to just one activity, which is the beauty of Classpass, plus at $99/month it’s $50/month cheaper than my yoga membership.  I still do yoga but I’ve also taken up a kettlebell class, barre, HIIT and so much more.  The only limit is you can only attend the same studio 3 times in the month, but this hasn’t been much of a hardship for me so far given the variety.  Love it!

I went and saw Cats at the Regent Theatre a few weeks ago, which was fantastic.  Say what you will about Delta Goodrem, that girl can sing!  I also finally got my braces off {again}!  So I first had braces over 10 years ago, but a gap developed between my front bottom teeth and it was driving me crazy to look at it.  Vain, I know, but food kept getting stuck in there as well and it was driving me insane.  I had them put on in August, just on the front bottom teeth, and they were supposed to be off before Christmas but there were some complications.  Long story short, they’re finally gone and I’m super happy about it!

A pretty slow reading month for me, unfortunately.  I find January is always a bit slow for me, mostly because I’m watching so much tennis.  I only finished two books, Night of Cakes and Puppets (Daughter of Smoke and Bone #2.5) by Laini Taylor and One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn.

I started Siege and Storm (The Grisha #2) by Leigh Bardugo, but I put it down and haven’t picked it back up yet.  I don’t know why, I was really enjoying it!  I also started These Broken Stars (Starbound #1) by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner, and I ended up rushing out to buy the series, so there you go!

Just some of the music I’ve been listening to this month.  From Australian indie artists, to pop powerhouses, I’ve been a little bit all over the place this month!

I was hooked on the tennis through all of January.  From the Hopman Cup, the Brisbane/Sydney/Hobart Internationals, the Kooyong Classic and the Australian Open, January is a very good tennis month in Australia!  I also watched a lot of cricket, between that and the tennis it’s getting me through until it’s time for footy to start up again.

Aside from all the sport, there hasn’t been too much on TV.  I’ve been watching Friends in the morning before work, while I exercise on the treadmill, and it never gets old.  Fortunately TV has picked up a bit now that the ratings period has started again.

As for movies, I haven’t seen too many this month.  I went and saw Joy with my mum, while my dad went to see the new Star Wars, but other than that I don’t recall having watched any movies.  If I did, they can’t have been very good!  Joy was great though, another awesome Jennifer Lawrence/David O’Russell collaboration.
